Wassup guys!
What does everyone rave about when it comes to bodybuilding? Protein. What is protein made from? Amino acids.
Leucine is the king of amino acids!
Before we get into the science, the benefits of leucine are that is has the largest impact on recovery, protein synthesis and muscle growth for the least amount of money.
For instance when you are buying whey protein you are essentially paying for the effects that it’s constituent amino acids have on the body to help recovery and increase muscle mass. However the the most effect stems from the BCAAs (Branched Chain Amino Acids), which is why whey protein is favored so highly: it is high in BCAAs.
The BCAAs are Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine.
It is recommended to take them together for maximum effectiveness, however studies have shown that Leucine has a much greater effect over the other two, or any other protein for that matter.
Leucine:
Stimulates protein synthesis[1]
Spikes insulin to pack nutrition to the muscle and IGF-1
Activates mTOR[1]
Directly used by the muscle as fuel[1]
Studies to show Leucine is required post workout to promote muscle growth.
Helps you to lose weight[1]
In comparison to whey protein powder which contains about 180g of BCAAs per kg (£13.99 MyProtein), 250g of Leucine alone is only £8.99 with higher bulk orders even less and you are getting 100% amino acids.
For Acne:
It has been known for a while that whey protein and dairy in general can exacerbate acne symptoms in people, thus why i have not used it for a long time.
The use of leucine means that you can avoid whey protein and its multiple health risks and reduce the negative impact that it has on your skin overall. Due to the fact that the scoops of leucine are much smaller for what you need, it means that you are putting less stress on your system to get rid of potential toxins that it may contain.
How to take it?
I usually take 3 heaped small scoops (2g myprotein small scoopers) in the morning with my juice, pre-workout and post-workout. This has increased my recovery dramatically which means i can train harder ;) and more often.
This is equivalent to the amount of BCAAs in 100g of whey protein powder.
In conclusion, Leucine is such a cost effective way to increase recovery and increase them gains. Add it to whatever your taking at the moment it will change your life.
